Dr. Asa T. Briggs, DNP, launched his career as a psychiatric practitioner at Unity Health Care, Inc., the largest Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC) in Washington, D.C. Over the course of seven years, he served as the Discipline Director of Psychiatry, where he led initiatives in quality improvement and the implementation of best practice guidelines.
A South Carolina native, Dr. Briggs has also advised both for-profit and non-profit organizations. His expertise helps these organizations enhance their capacity to address the shortage of local and global resources essential for effectively treating vulnerable populations with mental health challenges.
Dr. Briggs is a dedicated mental health advocate with experience at state, local, and federal levels. He contributed to President Obama’s My Brother’s Keeper Initiative, offering insights to shape policies aimed at better preparing students of color for emotional and mental challenges in the educational system.
In 2022, Dr. Briggs founded Briggs Psychiatry and Behavioral Health in Greenville, SC, focusing on providing mental health support to individuals in underserved communities. Additionally, he serves as a Clinical Assistant Professor and a mental health faculty scholar at
Clemson University, his alma mater.
