Minneapolis Veterans Affairs Healthcare Systems and Johns Hopkins University

Dr. Dan Lovinaria has been a practicing CRNA for over 23 years. He is proud to be the first Filipino CRNA who was recently inducted as a Fellow of the American Academy of Nursing (FAAN). Dr. Lovinaria is a senior CRNA and nurse anesthesia student clinical coordinator at the Minneapolis Veterans Affairs and a faculty member of the Johns Hopkins Nurse Anesthesia Program. Dr. Lovinaria is the inaugural President of the Filipino-American Nurse Anesthesiology Society (FANAS).

Dr. Lovinaria's leadership extends beyond his clinical and academic roles. He was the former Program Director of the first DNP Nurse Anesthesia Program in the US at the University of Minnesota and a former President of the Minnesota Association of Nurse Anesthetists. Currently, he serves as the chairperson for the National Board of Certification and Recertification of Nurse Anesthetists’ National Certification Examination, a member of the American Association of Nurse Anesthesiology (AANA) Fellow Selection Committee, a reviewer of the AANA Journal, Society of Simulation in Healthcare Certification Council member, and a member of the Anesthesia Patient Safety Foundation’s Patient Safety Advisory Group.

Dr. Lovinaria's dedication to fostering diversity and inclusion in nurse anesthesia is evident in his work with the Diversity in Nurse Anesthesia Mentorship Program. Through this program, he has provided mentorship to under-represented minority nurses, leading to their admission to US nurse anesthesia programs. His individual mentorship has also been instrumental in the career paths of over 200 Minnesota critical care nurses, who are now practicing CRNAs in Minnesota and the US.

His contributions to nursing have been disseminated in local, national, and international presentations, collaboration, and innovations. His diversity, equity, and inclusion advocacy in nurse anesthesia was recognized in June 2022 as one of the 25 Minneapolis/St. Paul Business Journal's Health Care Hero recipients, 2021 inaugural Fellow of the American Association of Nurse Anesthesiology, and 2020 Distinguished Practitioner Fellow of the National Academies of Practice in Nursing.
